After the commercial failure of Blunted On Reality, the Fugees were in danger of being dropped - until Salaam Remi's Nappy Heads remix managed to chart and convince Sony to fund another album. The Fugees took their advance and used it to purchase studio equipment, creating a studio in Wyclef's uncle's basement which they christened the Booga Basement.
