Marina's early career would be launched after writing "Plastic Rainbow" at around 19-20 years old. Despite calling the lyircs "lame", she said it gave her the confidence to pursue music. After working with an unknown producer in 2006, Marina was left dis-satisfied with the "prog-rock" production and began producing her own songs in 2007.
